This book researches one of the most stable and effective banking systems in the world. The current status and importance of this banking system is the result of a lengthy evolution. Moreover, its different stages of development have received rather ambiguous appraisal from participants and witnesses of the process, and contemporary analysts and experts. Switzerland’s banking system can be declared the benchmark for forming a market environment since private, state (canton), cooperative and mixed banking institutions operate quite effectively and in competitive conditions. Swiss banks make a worthy contribution to GDP, state budget revenue and in securing employment. The importance of their actions is confirmed by an equally high level of trust from clients, that is, economic subjects and citizens. Given the complicated conditions in which the relatively young Russian banking system is forming and developing, it may be useful to take in to account the experience of the Swiss banking system and adapt it to Russian practice.
