This textbook is the first practical course of Swedish language published in the Soviet Union and is of a kind of universal character, i.e. it is suitable for use both in an educational institution and for independent study. Taking into account that in our country the knowledge of German, a cognate of Swedish, is quite widespread, the author has built the textbook in such a way that a person who speaks German can learn Swedish much faster. It should be borne in mind that a person who has learned one Scandinavian language can easily understand other Scandinavian languages. The practical course aims to teach to read newspapers, magazines, uncomplicated fiction and other literature without dictionaries, as well as to conduct a conversation on everyday and political topics.When studying Swedish at a university as the main language (12 hours per week) practical course is designed for one year of study, as a second language (6 hours per week) for 1-1.5 years. When studying independently, the proposed textbook is recommended for 1-1.5 years with knowledge of German and 1.5-2 years without knowledge of German.
