The monograph explores the question of the content and nature of diplomacy of the main imperialist powers in relation to the small countries of Europe. The author pays special attention to clarifying the history of Austria in international relations in 1938-1945, i.e. the history of the country that was the first victim of Hitler's German armed aggression. On the basis of extensive documentation - Soviet, Austrian, British, American - the author also covers such issues as: the capture of Austria by Hitler's Germany and the policy of encouraging this aggression by the diplomacy of the Western powers; the transformation of Austria into one of the most important arsenals of the German Empire in the Second World War; the struggle of the Western powers in 1941-1945 against the idea of restoring Austria's independence. The author contrasts the policy and diplomacy of imperialism towards the small countries of Europe with the bright pages of the struggle of the Soviet Union for the freedom and independence of small nations, and in particular for the restoration of Austrian independence. At the same time, the history of the struggle of Austrian patriots against fascist captivity in the German Reich and for the progressive prospects of the new Austria is also revealed.
