The book explores the origins and stages of the complex evolution of the problem of West Berlin, which for over 20 years was the center of subversive activities against the countries of the socialist commonwealth, a dangerous hotbed of international tension. A significant place in the book is given to the demonstration of peace-loving constructive foreign policy of the Soviet Union and the German Democratic Republic, aimed at the settlement of the West Berlin problem on the basis of the Potsdam Agreement, taking into account the territorial and political realities in Europe. The work analyzes the agreement on West Berlin, concluded on September 3, 1971 between the USSR, the USA, Great Britain and France, treaties between the USSR and FRG, Poland and FRG, GDR and FRG, as well as a set of agreements on West Berlin. The author of the book - candidate of historical sciences G.M.Akopov in 1950-1956 years was in responsible work in the Soviet Control Commission in Germany, in the office of the Supreme Commissar of the USSR in Germany, in the Embassy of the USSR in the GDR.
