The author of the monograph, a well-known Russian political scientist, examines the current geopolitical situation in the Caucasus, what is sharply priority for Russia's security theme. He considers geostrategic activities of state not only from the Caucasus region, but also from a number of other Western countries.

Gadjiev writes about the prospects of a possibility to overcome the fragmentation of the Caucasus, basing on a detailed study of socio-economic and political development, policy of the U.S. and Western countries.

The author especially identifies issues related to the nature of relations between the participants of the Georgian-Russian war in August 2008.

Despite the complexity of the topic, the book is also interesting because it is written in understandable language.
