The handbook contains basic rules for transferring names and titles from 18 European languages into Russian, as well as summary tables and examples of transcription. It is intended for journalists, diplomats, writers, translators, referents, editors, bibliographers and persons of other professions who face the necessity of practical transcription. The handbook is based on the experience of the authors' joint work at the All-Union State Library of Foreign Literature, as well as on the literary sources listed in the footnotes and at the end of the book.
