The aim of the manuals is to develop the skills of dialogic and monologic speech and to teach how to conduct discussions and polemics in the process of everyday and business communication; to systematize and expand the vocabulary characteristic of conversational speech and business communication; to systematize and consolidate the grammatical structures necessary for active oral communication, including public speaking; to teach speech patterns of modern English and American fiction, conversation and public speaking. The subject matter of the textbooks is country and socially oriented and covers such topics as TV, cinema, theater, music, painting, literature, education, sports, public speaking. The textbooks are built on the principle of situational-communicative teaching of a foreign language and contain a short course of grammar in the system of tables, compiled taking into account the functional factors of communication, and a lesson-by-lesson dictionary of combinations of lexical units, selected on the principle of frequency of use in conversational speech, public speeches and business conversations. The manuals have been tested and edited in England and the USA. In terms of their structure and comprehensive approach to teaching oral speech, the manuals have no analogues either in our country or abroad.
