In a short historical period the United States evolved from a relatively small, predominantly agricultural state located at the periphery of the international system in a powerful country, which plays a key role in contemporary world politics. This work is the first in the national historiography experience publishing a textbook that describes the evolution of U.S. foreign policy since their inception in the late XVIII century and to this day, distinguishes its main stages and events. Authors trace the formation and improvement of the mechanism of the U.S. foreign policy and the development of the conceptual framework in which it operated the modernization program-target plants in foreign policy.
Important place in the occupied subjects connected with the analysis of the main directions of the regional policy. Special attention is paid to the relationship between the U.S. and Russia, as the range of detection of conflicts, and the scope of their shared interests.
The work is based on the study of a wide range of sources and literature, both domestic and American historians. It is the result of many years of teaching writers who for a long time to read the relevant lectures at Moscow State Institute of International Relations of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MGIMO) and the History Department of Moscow State University.
