About the author

This textbook is intended for work at senior courses of institutes and faculties of foreign languages. The textbook aims to further deepen and expand the skills of oral and written speech, active mastering of idiomatic colloquial speech, enrichment of students' vocabulary, acquisition of translation skills and skills of correct understanding of the original text rich in vocabulary and idiomatics, as well as the repetition of words, phrases and grammatical constructions passed in the junior courses. The textbook consists of two sections. The first section includes individual stories and excerpts from works of mainly modern authors, diverse in style, language and subject matter. A system of lexical and grammatical exercises has been developed for each of them. The main part of the exercises provides for active learning of the lexical material, while other exercises are designed for repetition and further consolidation of the material of the younger courses.
