The proposed dictionary of antonyms of Modern English is a collection of words that are antonyms in the proper linguistic sense of the word, and includes more than a thousand antonymous pairs, accompanied by examples of their use in two or more typical antonymous contexts. In some cases, a single example is given to illustrate that a given antonymous pair is relatively less frequent. The examples are taken from the works of English, American and Australian authors of the XIX-XX centuries, as well as from newspaper and magazine articles. For the convenience of using the dictionary in each article along with the main antonymous pair the most used antonymous words of the same root are given. The dictionary consists of an introduction, the dictionary itself and indexes: index of root antonyms, index of affixal antonyms, index of symbols of cited sources.
