The declaration of political independence is only the beginning of a long road that the peoples have to go through. It is necessary to overcome enormous difficulties, to break the resistance of supporters of the old order, to choose a path of economic and socio-economic development that would meet the interests of the liberating nations and their broad masses. The success of the struggle depends on many factors - internal and external. This monograph is devoted to the analysis of a wide range of topical problems of modern national liberation movements, the question of choosing the historical path of developing countries as one of the most serious subjects of class struggle and the struggle of two world socio-economic systems. The reader will find materials in it concerning the further development of national liberation movements, the role of various social forces, and above all the peasantry, the significance of the historical experience of building socialism in the national republics of the Soviet Union for the peoples of former colonial and dependent countries fighting for complete freedom and independence. Separate chapters are devoted to the role of external factors, and above all international economic and political relations, in the process of choosing the path of developing countries, the possibilities and practice of using diplomacy, international organizations and bodies in the interests of independent national development. This area has not been studied much yet, although its impact on the process of economic and social development is very significant. A special place is given to some aspects of the Soviet Union's relations with developing countries - this important factor in modern international relations.
