The monograph shows the confrontation of different trends in American political life, especially during the period of the Democrats' rule from Kennedy to Carter. It analyzes the process of formation of foreign policy concepts, strategy and tactics of the American administration on a number of key issues of world politics in the 60-70s. Having generalized, including on the basis of personal impressions, the experience of the development of Soviet-American relations in the 70s, the author concludes that there are great potential opportunities for strengthening peace, strengthening relations between the USSR and the United States on the principles of peaceful coexistence.
