The book tells about the fate of ordinary people, citizens of capitalist countries, deprived of one of the most essential human rights - the right to labour. Unemployment, the scourge of workers in the West, has become a truly international problem under conditions of imperialist integration and the growth of transnational and international monopolies. Unemployment is planned and even subsidised in order to keep the capitalist economy from "overheating" and, at the same time, to release the "steam" of social discontent, which could lead to a revolutionary explosion.
