This collective monograph examines Russia’s position and role in systems of international relations from the 17th century to the start of the 20th century. The authors' attention is focused on Russia’s rise as a great European empire and her participation in international fora where the fundamental problems of global policy were discussed. The trend of Russia’s participation in international congresses and fora from the 17th century to the start of the 20th century clearly testifies to the changes in and maturation of Russia’s role over centuries. In 17th c. Russia became one of the guarantors of the Peace of Westphalia (1648). As a result of a successful Great Northern War, Russia turned into a formidable European and then global empire. Without Russia’s participation it was impossible to resolve any important issue on the international stage. The results of this research can be used to prepare lecture series and university textbooks. This book will be useful to specialist historians, politologists and international affairs experts when analyzing the current international situation.
