This account cannot be definitively placed in the category of memoirs, even though it contains fragments of memoir writing. Neither is it an academic study even if it does address some points about the history of Pakistan and Bangladesh. The author spent over twenty years in these countries and has studied their specific issues for over forty years while working in the diplomatic service both abroad and in the central administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the USSR/Russia.
This narrative is somewhat eclectic; made up of both a personal and professional autobiography, the author’s particular observations and generalizations on work in diplomatic institutions, his interpretations of historical and sociocultural particularities, home and foreign policy (with an accent on relations between neighbouring regions and also on bilateral relations with the USSR/Russia) of the aforementioned countries in the Indian subcontinent. In addition, the author also expresses his thoughts on some of the eternal questions of being.
The book may be useful for students learning about the countries of southern Asia and preparing to work in diplomacy or another field in this region, and also for all those interested in oriental studies and diplomacy.
