For the first time in Russian historiography the theme of Soviet intelligence services in the USA – a former taboo for those involved in the events and for Russian researchers – has undergone comprehensive examination. Almost all accessible materials in Russian and foreign archives, and available publications, have been used.

The book shows the understanding of our country's government that its relations with the US as a potentially beneficial trade partner and source of scientific, technical, military, industrial and economic information would have a tangible impact on its domestic and foreign policy.
