The author of the book is a prominent scientist and diplomat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Soviet Union, winner of the USSR State Prize. He has written many books and articles on the history of the Second World War, which form the basis of this work, which has been considerably supplemented with new documents and materials.
