After the collapse of the USSR the political class of Russia and other post-Soviet republics were faced head on with the difficult task of searching for a new identity for their country. The search for a rational (realistic) meaning with a constructive character for this particular identity affected both internal and external policy. This search, which still continues at present in Russia, is taking place in the difficult conditions of a fundamental reconfiguration of the system of international relations and the arrangement and balance of powers in the world. This academic monograph analyses the main stages of transformation of foreign policy activities in post-Soviet Russia, beginning with the first years of its existence and ending with our times.
The book contains the author’s main works on foreign policy, available in different publications (mainly in academic articles and newspapers) for the last thirty or so years. They analyse both the theory of international relations and foreign policy, and the practice of foreign policy in contemporary Russia.
Recommended to be read carefully by readers interested in foreign policy. Also recommended to undergraduates and those studying for an MA or pHD, as a textbook to aid in understanding and learning.
