Gold of the Russian Empire and the Bolsheviks. 1917–1922:: in 3 vol.

Mosyakin’s examination in Gold of the Russian Empire and the Bolsheviks brings to light for both scholars and the general public a hefty layer of archived documents that reveal the fate of the largest  Russian gold reserve in the world, created before the First World War and which disappeared within 8 years. What happened to the Russian gold exported abroad during the war by the Tsarist government is generally known. Yet what happened to the gold reserve of Imperial Russia, which went into Bolshevik hands, lies almost completely hidden in the dark recesses of Russia’s history. The documents published here pour light onto the events. They show the significant role that ‘Tsarist gold’ played during and towards the end of the Russian Civil War and expose the secret connections of Bolshevik leaders with the global financial oligarchy, allowing us to peer behind the velvet curtain and glimpse the historical events that saved the Bolshevik regime from ruin. Almost all of the 742 published documents stem from the Russian State Archive of the Economy and have been made public for the first time, moreover in photocopied form. There is also a photocopied document on Lenin’s accounts in New York banks, sent to the author from the US. The documents themselves and the analysis offered compel us to take a fresh look at the one-hundred-year-old historical events that determined the future of Russia and the whole world.
For a wide circle of readers.
